The program offers a chance for students to match them with employment opportunities in career fields they are interested in while also receiving paid job training. “The goal of the program is YOUR AD HERE to make sure that once our students graduate high school, the transition from high school to post-secondary education and careers is a much smoother transition,” Shanice Reed said. There are three main programs--the Cal Promise Program, the Work Ability Program, and the TPP Program. “All three of those programs help students gain work experience,” Reed said. “This summer we’re focusing primarily on the Cal Promise Program and place students hopefully within the Parks and Recs [Department].” Cal Promise is a statewide program with the goal of helping SSI recipients attain educational degrees and certificates to improve their career and incomes. The employment is paid by the Centinela Valley School District, so potential employers need not worry about paperwork or payroll as well as workers compensation. “If anything happens on the work site, we take full responsibility and we’re liable,” Reed added. “I think this is a win-win situation.
