Having eight schools earn Gold Ribbon awards in two years adds to a long list of accomplishments and acknowledgments by Hawthorne School District campuses that already include having Hawthorne Math and Science Academy named California’s College and Career Transition School by the ACT and being ranked No. 12 in the State in U.S and World News Report. Since the news of the awards is new, there has not been much reaction from parents; however, Dr. Morgan believes that parents acknowledge the academic accomplishments in the district despite the schools receiving external awards. “For parents who have kids in our school, I don’t think it’s about awards since they see the great things that are going on day in and day out: I think that is what they comment on because they like the programs, they like the schools and they like what is happening here,” Dr. Morgan said. “We are all firm believers in no matter how well you’re doing, there is always room to do better and go forward. Especially when you’re working with kids; they aren’t machines or widgets, they are people and you always want to do what is best for people.” • “I think that it just highlights the fact that we are doing some really good things in Hawthorne and it is nice to have it recognized.”
