Page 4 February 5, 2015 Lawndale overcomes loss at BH by routing Hawthorne, Culver By Joe Snyder, photos by Joe Snyder Lawndale High’s boys’ basketball team suffered a setback in a 57-56 loss to host Beverly Hills in an Ocean League showdown on January 26, but bounced back with a pair of easy wins over Hawthorne and Culver City last week. In a Centinela Valley High School District rivalry on January 28 at Lawndale, the Cardinals were off and running for an easy 79-45 win over the Cougars. The Cardinals then began the second half of Ocean play at Culver City and rolled over the Centaurs 90-46. For Redondo (ranked fourth in the CIFSouthern Section Division IAA and a top candidate for the prestigious Southern Section Open Division playoffs) , it was its first league loss in three years and the first for head coach Reggie Morris, Jr., who is in his third season with the Sea Hawks. Redondo (5-1 in Bay action and 17-5 overall) still holds a one-game lead over co-second place squads Inglewood and Mira Costa (each 4-2) with four games remaining. The Sents are 12-10 overall. Inglewood lost a home game to the Mustangs 60-55 on January 20 and defeated the visiting Panthers 50-38 three days later in previous league action. Morningside, which lost at Peninsula 52- 47 last Friday, visited Redondo Tuesday. The Monarchs host Palos Verdes Friday and Mira Costa next Tuesday in 7:30 p.m. league games.
