Our Los Angeles Rams take on the New England Patriots. Game time is 3:30 p.m. Let the party begin. Let us gorge ourselves on any finger food we can get our fingers on. Let the cold ones roll. The time is approaching where Super Bowl LV is scheduled for our very own Inglewood/Hawthorne stadium in 2021. Just two years from now, we will be in the spot light. Over $300 million is expected to be spent by out of town visitors in our fine area during the week leading up to the big game. With the price of Super Bowl tickets increasing each year, you may want to have your big, flat screen ready for you and your guests to watch or you could take out a home equity loan to go travel up Prairie Avenue to Century to view the game in person. State of the City Want to know what is really happening in Hawthorne? Well, you won’t find it here in my column, but you will find out what’s happening if you attend the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce’s State of the City Luncheon to be held this year on March 7th. Mayor Vargas will be giving his 3rd update to the residents and stakeholders of Hawthorne. The Citizen of the Year Award will be announced at the event also. Tickets can be obtained by calling the Chamber office at (310) 676-1163. Nominations are now being accepted for the Citizen of the Year Award that is presented annually at the State of the City Luncheon featuring Mayor Alex Vargas. The deadline for nominations is Tuesday February 19th. You may write a letter nominating someone and either send it or drop it off at the Hawthorne Chamber office, 12519 Crenshaw Blvd, Hawthorne. Or you may email it to the Selection Committee Chairman Tom Quintana at quprs@ aol.com. Past Citizen of the Year recipients will meet to make the selection. What’s Wrong ? Some of you will be disappointed in my efforts this week. You’ll wonder if I’m feeling okay. I just made a couple of minor references to cold ones. No mention of my old lady or God or relaxing or guessing how many loyal readers I have or how my extended family still calls me the mule or how stupid I am for writing this crap or how I used to be a phony politician but now I’m just a former city clerk with nothing but stupid stories to tell about the good old days in the City of Good Neighbors. I know some of you actually skip all the way down to this paragraph. Is that why you read this stuff, just to see the dumb stuff I try to come up with each week? If laughing at me or with me or simply smiling about something brightens your day, then great. If you find no humor in nothing, then just stop reading, you probably hate beer and wine and don’t have an old lady to keep you humble. If laughter is the best medicine and cold ones make you laugh, then pop one open and enjoy. Life is short, so many cold ones. We can either enjoy life or die. What’s your choice?
