Max was the oldest child of Barbara Ann Tron (Gafford) and Arthur James Gafford of El Segundo, CA. Max was born April 4th, 1992 at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, CA and grew up in El Segundo, CA. He was educated at Center Street Elementary, El Segundo Middle School and El Segundo High School and was a graduate of Arena High School in 2010. He was a proud Dolphin and recipient of the “Excellence in Math” Scholarship Award. Max was an exceptional athlete and much of his life was spent enjoying and pursuing athletic competition, team camaraderie and off-road dirt bike and quad riding and racing. Max excelled, particularly, at hockey. Max began playing hockey with the El Segundo In-Line Recreational League at age 5. He played through high school and,  also,  participated as a scorekeeper, youth referee, and eventually coached teams that would include his younger siblings Jake and Olivia. Max rotated between roller and ice hockey for many seasons, sometimes on the same weekend, playing both roller and In-House Ice Hockey at Health South/Toyota Sports Center. His love of the sport also lead him to be selected, along with many of his El Segundo teammates, as a defensive player with the El Segundo Knights Club Travel Hockey Team. Max extended his hockey involvement through high school on the El Segundo High School In-Line Roller Hockey Team. He was awarded the role of Captain on numerous teams. Max excelled as a defensive scorer and team leader and mostly enjoyed the time spent with his fellow teammates in travels and tournaments throughout the Southland. Max participated in El Segundo Little League from Farm to Majors, AYSO Soccer and the Frosh/Soph Football Team at El Segundo High School. At the age of 16, Max discovered Dirt Bikes and Quads, his new found passion in life. One of his greatest joys was when he was on his Quad, ripping a dune in Glamis, enjoying a sunset ride on top of the tallest dune and sitting by the fire with friends and family after a long ride. Among many things Max is remembered for are his bright blue eyes, his quick wit, his sense of humor, his rebellious carefree nature, his generous personality,  his passion for the LA Kings  and his love of being Max. Max Eugene Gafford is survived by his father, Arthur James Gafford, his mother Barbara Ann Tron (Gafford) and Daniel R. Tron, his brother Jake Thomas Gafford, 21, and his sister Olivia James Gafford, 16.  A memorial celebration of Max’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 7th, 2017 at El Segundo High School in the Main Auditorium. • Visit us online: www.heraldpublications.com 2016 Herald Publications Best of the Best Awards Breakfast Lunch Dinner happy hour/night spot pizza coffee house chiropractor gym physicaL therapy BarBer shop Beauty shop JeweLry store cLothing store computer store reaLtor - femaLe reaLtor - maLe Mail or bring in your completed entry form by December 30, 2016 at noon to: Herald Publications Attn: Best of the Best 500 Center St. El Segundo, CA 90245 insurance agent Bank Dentist mortuary pharmacy Veterinarian auto repair construction Herald Publications Best of the Best Awards gives the community an opportunity to let their voices be heard.
