Brandlin Motorhome Parking As a resident owner of El Segundo and a motorhome owner for over 35 years, I have always parked my motorhome at my residence during this time. I understand that El Segundo is trying to prevent non-residents from parking their broken down motorhomes on Imperial Ave and residential streets. A simple parking permit for residents with motorhomes would not only solve the problem, but would be easy to enforce. The proposed ordinance is complicated and hard to enforce. Our police officers work hard preventing crime, and this ordinance would take away police coverage at night, when most crimes occur. Let’s not punish the few motorhome residents that are responsible RV owners. – William Eyre Bad Polling The citizens of El Segundo take their votes and the right thereto seriously. In accord with that conviction, I lined up outside the Masonic Temple, my polling place, November 8 morning. It was a normal wait, but the scene inside was anything but. As soon as I was inside the door, a poll worker handed me the official ballot without anyone’s even looking for my name on the voter list, much less obtaining my signature. In fact nothing prevented my going straight to a voting booth and then anonymously to the ballot box, all without establishing my legitimacy as a registered voter. Probably I could have done it more than once. When I raised that point and objected to what I perceived as a breach of the intended security for a serious matter, i.e. the U. S. franchise, my concern was dismissed by another poll worker via a sarcastic wisecrack. The only excuse I got was that the table had been set up backwards, so the procedure was now in reverse order. What? Once home I phoned the Secretary of State office and after a 10 minute hold was told that each county did things differently and given a number for Los Angeles County. My call there was automatically dropped after a short hold. We hear a lot these days about voter ID laws, with speculation that they are part of a sinister plot to deny the vote to some citizens. If El Segundo’s neglect to enforce even the minimal protocol currently required is any indication, it seems unlikely to be a threat. Were other voters shocked by the situation I witnessed? – Edward Ryan Our Apologies On Behalf of El Segundo Community and El Segundo High School, I would like to apologize for any negative incidences that took place with our football game vs Lawndale High School on Friday, Oct 21. In what was expected to be a highly anticipated football contest, emotions spilled over into the stands and our Eagle Student Section. It was brought to our attention, that profane chants took place after the game, that were directed to Lawndale High School and that several families and their children felt unsafe at our school. In addition, it was also brought to our attention the Public Address announcer said disparaging remarks about Lawndale during the postgame handshake. This type of behavior is not indicative of the community or the student body of El Segundo High School and has been addressed by our school administration. El Segundo High School strives to provide a positive and student friendly environment when attending home events, and we hope that our two communities will continue to work closely together and provide a positive educational and extra-curricular experience in the future. - Our Apologies, Jaime Mancilla, Principal Steve Shevlin, Athletics Director • Police Seeking Victims of Recovered Stolen Property (“Data Tel-Electric” Etched Into Several Power Tools) Several vehicle burglaries occurred on November 6 at approximately 1:35 a.m. in the 900 block of Main Street. A witness called 911 after observing suspect Jerome Wallace standing next to his work truck. The witness inspected his work truck and noticed a door lock damaged. After officers arrived, they noticed a separate work truck broken into nearby with equipment scattered in the roadway. Soon after, officers located the Suburban near Grand and Kansas and stopped the vehicle. They identified all three suspects--between 49 and 60 years old with extensive arrest records--and recovered a significant amount of stolen property.
