Page 20 November 10, 2016 EL SEGUNDO HERALD proud to be awarded safest refinery in america Earlier this year, the Chevron El Segundo Refinery was recognized as the safest refinery in the United States in receiving the American Fuels and Petrochemical Manufacturers Association (AFPM) 2015 Platinum Distinguished Safety Award. The award, AFPM’s most prestigious, is given to a facility that has attained an exemplary level of safety performance, as measured by a stringent set of federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) statistics over the course of a full year. Over 600 safety award applications were submitted by manufacturing facilities across the country, which included many of the 140 refineries operating in the U.S. While we are honored to receive this recognition, we remain forever mindful of what it means to be a good neighbor. In fact, the El Segundo Refinery just completed over $1 billion in projects to further enhance our safety and environmental performance.
