Page 12 November 3, 2016 EL SEGUNDO HERALD Eagles from page 5 opening in the line on his way to a 26-yard touchdown run to make it 21-7. On the Cougar’s next possession, Hunter Lynch stepped in front of Hawthorne’s Justice Powers for an interception return to midfield. However, a major penalty on Hawthorne moved the ball to their 35-yard line. It didn’t take long for another score when Palmer found Brasher open behind the Cougar secondary for a 35-yard touchdown reception with 56 second remaining in the first half. The final score of the game came on the Eagle’s second possession of the third quarter. The Eagles took over on their own 7-yard line after the defense held the Cougars to a one yard gain on fourth-and- two. El Segundo then went on a 16-play, 93-yard journey to ice the game. The offense chewed up big yardage plays but were also guilty of holding calls along the way. Ashton Salts’ 20-yard run and Tauaese’s 9-yard run were both brought back on holding calls. The Eagles managed to get into the end zone when Palmer connected with Brasher on a 7-yard pass play to culminate the drive and make it 35-7. Both Lagarde and Palmer looked good with each passing for two touchdowns apiece. Brasher had one of his best games catching five passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns. Not lost in the way the Eagles played was the defense and how dominating they played. And for the third consecutive game they gave up seven or less points while the offense has averaged 39 points. The Eagles’ linebackers were impressive with Angelo Pacheco in on 13 tackles and Mark Binder added nine tackles. The secondary came up with four interception led by Taj Balogun’s two while Hunter Lynch and Tyler Villalobos each had one. The Eagles travel to Santa Monica on Friday night. A win for the Eagles would seem certain that they would host a first round CIF-SS Division 7 game next Friday night. Girls’ Volleyball The Lady Eagles took it on the chin when they fell to Santa Monica in the Ocean League finale. They fell in three straight games 17-25, 18-25, 21-25. Though El Segundo led in all three games to start, the Vikings came through each time to gain the momentum and finish off the Eagles. In the set, Maddie Kurke’s kill tied the game at 18-18 and Alyssa Pearson’s block evened the game at 21 apiece, but the Vikings scored the next four points to win the match. The Lady Eagles finished behind Culver City and Santa Monica in the Ocean League. The Eagles entered the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs as the fourth seeded team and played at Highland on Tuesday. Should the Eagles prevail they would play the winner of the Templeton/Maranatha winner today. A home game if Templeton wins while a coin flip if Maranatha wins. Girls’ Tennis The Lady Eagles finished with a 5-1 Ocean League record to propel the team into the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs starting yesterday. Senior Kristin Villanueva and freshman Lauren Davis won the Ocean League doubles title. Boys’ Water Polo The Eagles are on the verge of an undefeated Ocean League schedule after dismantling Beverly Hills, 16-5. El Segundo played hard and battled through some chirpy play from the Normans.  Cheap shots and dirty play didn’t stop the Eagle from putting up 16 goals and improving on their undefeated Ocean League record. Kelly Reynolds led the way with seven goals, Kyle Crist had four goals, Owen Hale two goals, Ryan Winkler, Nolan Young and freshman sensation Kalan Smith each had one goal.  Brett Quesada racked up 15 saves in goal. “It was a testament to our team and not getting to excited about how Beverly played,” head coach Riley Brady said.  The Eagles’ Ocean League title hopes take place in their last week of league play with home games against Torrance on Tuesday and Santa Monica today at home.  ESHS Surf Team El Segundo dominated the Torrance Tartars by winning 7 of the 8 heats.  Competing in her first ever contest was Porter Maese who won both the girls’ short board heat and the girls’ long board heat scoring 12 total points towards the Eagle’s victory.  A number of other surfers put together strong performances to earn first place in their 6-man heats. Shane Frontino used a balanced attack to win a short board heat as well as the boys’ long board heat. Other notables from the contest include Lukas Roscoe, Gavin Lueck, Jacob Samia, Chase Wood, and Taylor Stone. The ESHS Surf Team is now 1-0 in the South Bay Scholastic Surfers Association. • PUBLIC NOTICES PUBLISH YOUR PUBLIC NOTICES HERE ABANDONMENTS: $125.00 ABC NOTICES: $125.00 DBA (Fictitious Business Name): $75.00 NAME CHANGE: $125.00 Other type of notice?
