Photo provided by Leslie Adlam. • Alert from E.S.P.D. The City of EL Segundo has utilized the Everbridge “Alert El Segundo” Mass Notification System for important emergency notifications since 2011. Recently, the company decommissioned their legacy system and rolled out a new platform eliminating all prior data. For these reasons and because much of the data was more than five years old, we strongly encourage all residents and business owners to sign up to ensure that you will receive important emergency notifications from the City the way you want to receive them. The Police Department and Fire Department will be reaching out to residents and business owners through social media and community events to sign back up or become a new subscriber to “Alert El Segundo.” This service is free and provides emergency School Spotlight Story and Photos by Cece Jane Stewart, Senior at ESHS  On a sunny California afternoon during lunch, students at El Segundo High School (ESHS) participated in the annual Club Fair Rachel Wang at the Club Fair. on the quad. The event was put on by ASB under the organization of Emma Romero and Maya Weiss, the Commissioners of Clubs and Organizations. Thirty-two clubs gave students the opportunity to learn about how to get involved with everything from Spikeball to International Human Rights.  The benefits of being in a club include everything from making friends, getting involved at ESHS and working on activities for your college resume. Whatever the motivation, there are some amazing organizations to check out that will enrich your high school experience.  If you missed the club fair and/or are interested in learning more about a club and when they meet, you can go to gundoasb. weebly.com/index.html which is the ASB website.  Here are the 2016-2017 ESHS clubs: Hispanic Union; Kind Soul; Comedy Sportz; Drama Club; Career Readiness; Pasta Plate; harry Potter; F.C.A; Key Club; Eagles Ink: Friendship Circle; Dance Club; LGBT Pride; Anime and Magna; Interact Club; International Human Rights; Red Cross; Surfrider Foundation; Robotics; Computer science; Discover Club; Spikeball Club; Unplugged Hiking; FIDM Fashion; Bags for Homeless; Sleep Appreciation; Trees a Crowd; Heal the Bay; Young Democrat Socialist; Asian Culture; Ruthless Rooters; Support our Troops. Once you opt-in, the system allows simultaneous notifications by cell phone, text message, email, as well as your home phone customized to your preferences. The sign up process takes just a matter of minutes and can be accessed through the City of El Segundo homepage www.elsegundo.org, click on the “Virtual City Hall” tab then click on the “Alert El Segundo” tab. After you have created a user name and password, the site guides you through a simple four step process to customize your alerts. – Provided by E.S.P.D. El Segundo’s Champions of Business More than 225 guests attended the Champions of Business Celebration hosted by the City of El Segundo and the El Segundo Economic Development Advisory Council  (EDAC).  The celebration, held at Vistamar School in El Segundo, recognized Richard Lundquist, Chevron, and Kite Pharma for their contributions to the economic growth and success of the city. The event on September 29th was emceed by LA County Supervisor Don Knabe and featured a keynote address from Kevin Demoff, LA Rams’ COO and VP of Football Operations. The event was also the platform to announce the City of El Segundo has surpassed its  “100 @ 100” goal, an ambitious initiative to attract 100 businesses by the city’s centennial anniversary in 2017. To date, 103 new businesses call El Segundo home. The winners at the Champions of Business Celebration were the following: The Champion of Business Award recognized Richard Lundquist for setting the standard for financial performance, innovation, leadership and a strong commitment to philanthropic efforts in El Segundo and beyond. The Key to the City & Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed to Don Knabe for his impactful contributions to the advancement of the region through excellent leadership.
