They teach fundamentals, charge fair prices, and work long hours, sometimes after working a full day at their regular job. They love the sport, teaching and the young people that they coach just like the coaches at the high school and community level. Some Travel Ball and the club teams climb a slippery slope though if there is so much money to be made and so many temptations for conflict of interest like: Who is paying their monthly dues, which player is paying the coaches extra money for private sessions, facing parents who demand that their child plays even if he is not the best because they pay more money for the coach’s private lessons, and making sure their best athletes are at the Big tournaments even if they have to miss their High school practices or games. All I can say at this point is God bless the 60s that the author so denigrates, even up until the last ten years or so where kids played for fun, their community and their high school. The great players moved on to college and the pros without any help from club teams. It appears club sports are here to stay and that the only answer is for these two entities (club and high school teams) to work together for the benefit of all involved so that a common goal can be achieved. This may mean sacrifice for both sides but I believe if it can’t be done we will be forcing athletes, parents, and coaches to make a choice to pick one and leave the other. I believe that dedication to their school should be an athlete’s first priority but with innovation and truthful communication both can co-exist for mutual benefit. • PUBLIC NOTICES Order to Show Cause for Change of Name Case No. VS027497 Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles Petition of: Desiree Lauriano for Change of Name TO ALL INTERESTED PERSONS: Petitioner Desiree Lauriano filed a petition with this court for a decree changing names as follows: Desiree Lauriano to Desiree Marie Hernandez The Court orders that all persons interested in this matter appear before this court at the hearing indicated below to show cause, if any, why the petition for change of name should not be granted.
