Thanks for keeping the community up-to-date with the ongoings of City Council! I was happy to read in the 6/22/17 issue that City Council is considering adding commissioners to the Recreation and Parks Commission due to the amount of interest they had in the recent open seats.  However, there’s a line in your story that I’d love to hear some follow-up on: “Recreation and Parks Director Meredith Petit noted that the existing members reflected a ‘good cross-section of different interests and user groups’...” As far as I can tell (with just some cursory googling, forgive me if I’m getting this wrong!), all five of the members of the Recreation and Parks Commission -- including the two that were just appointed -- are men, and none currently have small children. I totally agree with Director Petit’s sentiment that a cross-section is important, just not sure that’s being met. Who’s representing us Gundo moms?! Or us parents of young kids whose interests include playgrounds with: baby swings (because there are maybe two such swings in 90245); shade (because do you wanna come slather this baby in sunblock for the tenth time today? Me neither); and fences (because we want to sit and scroll through freaking Instagram in peace. Kidding. But only kinda.) Would love your publication to do a little digging on Cross-Sectiongate 2017. – Julia Lillis Letters El Segundo’s Legendary “Strawberry Lady,” Ida Marks See Police Reports, page 14
