Watkins then started off the Board reports, with the members sharing their impressions of the recent promotion and graduation ceremonies in the District, and lauding the Ed! Foundation for their continued support of District students. Moore then made her Superintendent’s report. She too thanked the Ed! Foundation. “Thanks to them for meeting the challenge,” she said. President Jim Garza then concluded the 125- minute meeting. There are eight areas, based on state devised priorities, addressed in each LCAP proposal. The plans demonstrate how the District’s budget will help achieve the goals, and assess each year how the strategies in the plan are able to improve outcomes. Janicek emailed that “District’s must use the LCAP to create a plan that details how they will support student success. Our plan details the goals, the expected outcomes, and the dollars that will be devoted to helping all students succeed.” Chief Business Official Susan Aceves made the final presentation, which dealt with the District’s proposed budget for the 2016-17 school year that will commence this August. Aceves presentation noted financial assumptions built into the document, and offered the Board members the opportunity to view graphs and charts utilized in the development of the proposed budget. Sixteen consent items were tackled by the Board on Tuesday evening. Among the items consented to were the approval of a “next generation” science professional development program; an agreement with USC Rossier School of Education for professional development; approval of the renewal of the contract handyman with Illuminate Data and Assessment Management Systems, and an Illuminate professional BILL’S is planning on attending West Los Angeles College in the fall. Kristin Espinoza wants to become an orthodontist, and has mapped-out a pathway that will lead her to the USC School of Dentistry to complete her education and receive the degrees necessary to achieve her career goals. Senior Kris Kagy is currently attending the Los Angeles Fire Department Youth Academy. He will be attending El Camino in the fall to be trained as a firefighter. Quin Kirsten, Nicholas Palomino, and Chloe Stonecipher were selected, and placed third of 18 teams, which advanced them to the state competition in Folsom. They were given a “design brief” at 8 a.m. on the morning of the competition, and then were tasked to sketch, design, create animations and drawing sheets and make a summation presentation, all by 5 p.m. that day. High school instructor Jennifer Cho is the faculty advisor for the group. She emailed that “each member of the team brought an essential skill that is critical in a strong design team. They were always calm, cool, and collected.
