Page 2 June 9, 2016 EL SEGUNDO HERALD Community Briefs El Segundo Horseshoers’ Pitch for C.A.S.E. Each year, a group of local horseshoe pitchers get together for a day of competition and a chance to give back to their community. The 19th Annual Clarabell Horseshoe Tournament benefitting C.A.S.E. in El Segundo took place on May 28. Long-time El Segundo residents Terry and Cheryl Landreth host the annual event. For the past few years, the El Segundo Firefighters’ Association has supported the Clarabell fundraiser. On the day of the event, El Segundo Firefighters Jeff Gurney, Curt Crowson, and Brian Santagata presented a check for $500.00 to C.A.S.E. The money raised during the tournament through selling raffle tickets and individual contributions is given to C.A.S.E. to benefit local families in need. The generous donation of raffle items by many El Segundo businesses and individuals, as well as donations for the C.A.S.E. food pantry is greatly appreciated. C.A.S.E. would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the El Segundo Firefighters’ Association, local businesses, and community members who pitched in to make this year’s event such a success. William ‘Bill’ Klug Family Fund Bill Klug, a UCLA Engineering Professor and father, was killed on June 1 on campus.   The El Segundo Community would like to ask for your support for the family during this difficult time. Klug was a loving father, great coach and a valued member of this close knit California town.   His family was the most important thing to him and our goal is to make sure they are taken care of now and in the future. The money will be used for supporting the family and college for his son and daughter.   Klug meant a lot to this town, and so much more to his beautiful family.   To have his life taken in this senseless and violent way is incomprehensible.  Please give whatever you can to support his family and the legacy he leaves both in his community and at UCLA.
