The Angels’ machine had five first inning hits to race to a 4-0 lead. Grady Lubs doubled on the first pitch and later came around to score.  RBI singles by Logan Brooks and Joah Powell and an RBI fielder’s choice by Ayden Loiacono pushed the Angels to an early lead in the first inning. The Cubs countered with two runs of their own. Liam Fitzgerald and Owen Reed each singled and ended up scoring. Timmy Anderson’s RBI single made it 4-2, scoring Reed. In the third inning, Vinny Baldino singled and scored on a fielder’s choice. Calvin Myer, who was two for four, singled and scored on an RBI single by Loiacano. Later in the inning, Mathew Fizulich’s two-run single made it 7-2. The Cubs countered with two runs of their own. John Brody singled and Owen Reed sent a deep fly to right field that was caught. Later, Brenden Pate hit a two-run single to make it 7-4. In the fourth inning, Fizulich and Baldino each had RBI doubles to key a four-run inning as the Angles stretched their lead to 11-4. With the Angels leading 13-4 in the sixth inning, the Cubs rallied for three runs keyed by Pate’s double and singles by Timmy Anderson and Townes Potter. Fizulich, who had three hits, scored three times and had two RBIs, led the 16-hit attack for the Angels. Robert Shearon had two hits and Nicolas Rayburn and Parker Levin each had singles. Grady Lubs started and Logan Brooks finished up the last four innings by striking out six. Dodgers Stage Comeback Win The Dodgers staged a late comeback to defeat the Orioles 8-7 in the Major Division game. The game was tied 7-7 with the Dodgers batting in their half of the fourth inning when JJ Anderson singled off of Lucas Bonham to drive in the eventual winning run. The Orioles scored four runs in the first inning on a two-run triple by Lucas Bonham, a fielder’s choice by Nick Gagliardi, and a fielder’s choice by Miles Salazar. The Orioles continued their offensive assault and led 7-0 at one point. However, the Dodgers came charging back with a five-run third inning.  The big inning got going with a double by JJ Anderson and a single by Brian Smart. The Dodgers took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. Clutch-hitting Jack Fuhrman and RBI singles by Dylan Alcala, Brian Pham and Anderson in the inning were key to the come-from-behind win. Brady Englehardt started for the Dodgers. He threw three innings, giving up seven runs and four hits while striking out seven. Alcala relieved Englehardt in the fourth inning and recorded the last nine outs in a solid performance to earn the victory. The Dodgers hammered out 12 hits. Cruz Ochoa, Dylan Alcala, Brian Pham, JJ Anderson and Brian Smart collected two hits each. Anderson, Pham and Alcala drove in two runs apiece to lead the Dodgers. Eagles Earn All League Baseball Honors For the first time in recent memory, the El Segundo High School baseball team placed eight players on the All-Ocean League teams. The Eagles dominated the all-league selections after finishing 9-1 in league play. Jake Palmer was the MVP and Spencer Long was the Most Outstanding, while first baseman Spencer Palmer, outfielder Sean Emery and pitcher Jimmy Galicia were named to the first team. Second team members selected included third baseman Nico Celestial, second baseman CJ Shevlin and outfielder Kobe Estrada. First-year coach Billy Traber was named Coach of the Year. • Carson Puffer had an RBI in the first inning of the AA championship game.
