A family celebration and trip to Alaska commemorated their special day. • Community Briefs Library Hosts Historically Themed Author Fair The El Segundo Public Library’s annual Author Fair is set for Sunday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s program will feature four panels instead of the usual two. They will include The History of Mystery, moderated by El Segundo local author Eric Beetner with panel authors Brett Battles, Gar Anthony Haywood, Richard Lange, Janet Elizabeth Lynn, Lida Sideris, and Will Zeilinger.  A Casual Talk with Hollywood, will be moderated by actor/author Fred Stoller, with authors Mary Mallory, Karie Bible, Manny Pacheco and Paul Zollo.  So. Cal. History Writers  will be moderated by local author Judith Gerber and feature authors Jan Dennis (Manhattan Beach resident and former mayor), Charles Hobbs, Jeffrey Samudio, Luis Fuerte (Huell Howser’s former cameraman), Kenneth Pauley, and Mike Schaadt. The fiction panel Novel Inventions and Intriguing Stories will be moderated by El Segundo resident, screenwriter and former Library Board President Kevin Smith. Authors on the fiction panel include Parnaz Foroutan, Gian Sardar, Meg Howrey, J. Ryan Stradal, Gwendolyn Womack and El Segundo resident Mamta Jain Valderrama. The poetry corner will take place from 3-4 p.m., moderated by Gabriel Meyer and featuring poets Elena Karina Byrne, Brendan Constantine, Ramon Garcia and Judith Pacht. Children’s authors/illustrators include: Aubre Andrus, Jake Gosselin, Laura Gosselin and Keika Yamaguchi. They will be available for signing books from 2-3 p.m. Live music throughout the day includes classical guitar, music from the 1920s, American Tradition and music from the Great American Songbook. This year’s theme, “Images of the Past Become Stories of the Future,” was inspired by El Segundo’s Centennial. Other attractions throughout the day include the International Printing Museum, with hands-on demonstration in the History Room; El Segundo’s Traveling Historic Photo Museum displaying photos that tell the story of El Segundo’s past, sponsored by The Friends of the Library (in front of the library). The Automobile Driving Museum will park a few cars for display in front of the library. Barbecue items will also be for sale outside. – Source: El Segundo Public Library Middle School Builders Club Thanks LAAFB Officers from Los Angeles Air Force Base visited El Segundo Middle School on Friday, June 2 to receive a thank you card from the Builders Club. The club members hand-decorated the card and got signatures from dozens of students. They then presented the card to LAAFB in support of Military Awareness Month, which is celebrated annually in May as a way for communities to publicly demonstrate their appreciation for the sacrifices and successes made by current and former US Armed Forces personnel. – Photo Provided by Matthew Gallon See Community Briefs, page 14
