Raffle names will be drawn and winners contacted the following week.” Long-time Library Director Debra Brighton devised the concept of the Author Fair in 2001 as a way to bring a community book event to El Segundo. It now attracts more than 600 attendees annually from all over the Southland, as well as many prominent authors and poets. “It has really grown into a signature event that has earned a great deal of acclaim not just in El Segundo, but across the region,” Todd said. The June 7 festivities will run between 11:30 and 4:30 p.m. In addition to the panels noted above, the Poetry Corner will take place in the Rose Garden Room from 3:30 to 4:30 hosted by the aforementioned Byrne and Meyer (an El Segundo resident who has participated in the Author Fair for many years). Brown, Greenberg, Kegan, Miller, Nahai, Quartey, Rhyne, Skilton, Thomason, Weaver and Zamorano will be available for book signings on the Library main floor from 11:30 to 12:30. Banash, Bridges, Byrne, Civitello, Cook, Dower, Foss, Meyer, Pearson, Shulman, Wilder and Wright will be on-hand from 1:30 to 2:30. Gibson, Gurwich, Hall, Lauren, Maggi, Mehlman, Ortiz, Quintero, Redfearn, Rensin, Sestero, Smith and Snellings will wrap up the signings from 3:30 to 4:30. The program will additionally include balloon artistry courtesy of Marco Espindola, Boom Boom Balloon Man; music from Different Drum (a Linda Ronstadt tribute), Smokey Hollow (American traditional), Cat Terrones (folk and original tunes) and Sini Vineyard (classical violin). The Young People’s Program at the Children’s Library will feature a drawing demonstration with illustrator Steve Gray from 2 to 3; author/illustrator signings with de Anda, Ganz-Schmitt, Gray, Holczer, Kornell and Pierpoint from 2 to 3; and storytelling with Nicolle Tibbets (The Land of Imagination) from 3 to 4.
