Page 14 May 11, 2017 EL SEGUNDO HERALD School Board from front page behind this,” she said, citing the need to attract quality applicants for the open position. With Superintendent Melissa Moore out of town attending an educational conference, the meeting was chaired by Executive Director of the Office of Pupil Services Dale Lofgren, who will be retiring at the end of the school year. Moore was attending the Arizona State University Global Silicon Valley conference in Salt Lake City. She had been awarded one of about 500 full scholarships granted to school superintendents, paid for by the Walton and Gates’ foundations, to attend the conference that dealt with leading-edge technology and innovation, and boasted an array of eminent speakers and presenters. Said Moore prior to her departure to Salt Lake City: “I feel extremely honored to have received this full-scholarship,” and she noted that she looked forward to sharing the information gleaned from the conference with Board members and District staff. The first two presentations highlighted the exploits of PLTW students at the high school who either competed in a recent Chevron-sponsored Design Challenge competition, or were recognized for their accomplishments in the field of information technology and computing. On April 22, six El Segundo High students took part in the Chevron IED Design Challenge. Tasked with designing a “Duplo Toy Storage Container” in a six-hour timeframe, the students had to collaborate on designing a container that was “economical, functional, and [would] appeal to kids.” The six students worked in teams of three each. The team comprised of Gabriella Desch-Obi, Noelle Kartvedt and Spencer Moore, all ninth graders, grabbed first place in the competition. Also, skillfully representing the high school was the fourth place finishing team of ninth graders Fiona Elliott, Charlene Kim and Jake Layne. Mancilla introduced teacher Jennifer Cho, the faculty advisor to the teams. She spoke about the competition and lauded the “amazing, amazing, amazing students” who had taken the high school’s Intro to Engineering Design course, and were first-time participants in the competition. The team of Desch-Obi, Kartvedt and Moore then captured fourth place in the state competition in San Diego on May 6. Senior Gillian Cornwall was the senior recognized by the Board for her selection as a local winner for the National Center for Women and Technology Aspirations in Computing Award. Selected because of her aptitude and interest in information technology and computing, as well as her plans for related post-secondary education considerations, Cornwall was also mentored (like the students who picked up the Design Challenge accolades) by Cho, who will be leaving the District at the end of the school year to continue her career in education in Boise, Idaho. In an email, Cho said, “I am both sad about leaving such an amazing staff and community, but equally as excited for my bright future with my fiancé. I have grown to love El Segundo High School and the amazing community and hold the same high standards in my search for my next school community.” Consent agenda items passed included the approval of consulting contracts, teacher personal development days, campus clean-up HVAC services, and data processing services. Other than the pay bump for the principal position, action items passed included approval of El Segundo Middle School’s Middle Years Programme (MYP) Design Courses, and the ratification of a resolution declaring the week of May 21-27 as Classified School Employees Week. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (714) 730-2727 for information regarding the trustee’s sale or visit this Internet Web site -www.servicelinkasap.com - for information regarding the sale of this property, using the file number assigned to this case: 119928. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site.
