Lytle Long-time El Segundo resident June F. Lytle passed away peacefully in Palm Springs, CA, on April 25, 2015 at the age of 95. June was born on June 28, 1919 in Bellingham, Washington. She married Ward Joe Lytle on Feb. 19, 1943. As a military wife, she moved and lived throughout the United States and overseas. With her husband retired from the military, his work transfer brought her and six of her nine children to live in El Segundo in 1969. June led a full life with many accomplishments, passions and interests. Along with raising nine children, June became a business owner, worked for Northrop Corporation for 10 years, returned to school where she received an AA Degree in Fine Arts from El Camino, was a member of the Docent Council at the LA Art Museum and was an active and founding member of the El Segundo Arts Association. Along with being a talented artist in charcoal, water color, oils and serigraphy, June was also an accomplished seamstress (she studied under Madame Sharette, who also taught famous fashion designer Edith Head) who could easily tackle everything from upholstering furniture to sewing for an entire wedding party. In retirement, June traveled throughout much of the world and often found inspiration for her art abroad. She hiked the Great Wall of China in her eighties and when she turned ninety she made her last trip to Iceland commenting,” If I don’t do it now, I may never get there!” June’s passion for art and her love of travel was celebrated in her own art show titled “Serigraphs From Far Away Places” held at the El Segundo library in 2001. Our beautiful mother valued independence, education, activity, artistic expression and enjoying everything in moderation. She modeled how to live an uncomplicated life that embraced the simple joys of daily walks and creating art. She had an appreciation of nature, wildlife and all that is beautiful in this world. We thank you mom for your strength of spirit, your wisdom and your amazing love of life. June is survived by her nine children, Catherine Verna, Barbara Ferguson, John Lytle, Mary Roberts, Margaret Montavon, Alice Seegan, Joseph Lytle, Jean Kloppenburg, and Thomas Lytle; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family invites all June’s friends to attend and share in their memories of June in a Celebration of Life, July 11, 2015 from 1-3pm at the El Segundo Jocelyn Center, 339 Sheldon Street. If anyone would like to send in stories or would like to contact the family please email Jean Kloppenburg at jeankloppenburg@hotmail.com or call 1 250 754 1471. In the April 23 El Segundo City Council article regarding water conservation incentives, it was reported that available rebates for removing turf recently increased to $3 per square foot. The correct amount should be $2 per square foot. Also, in the April 30th school board article, our reporter referred to District Human Resources Executive Director as Dylan Harris, but his name is Dylan Farris.
