The Eagles continued their Ocean League schedule by hosting Culver City this past Tuesday and travel to play the Centaurs today at 3:15pm. The frosh/soph team has been on a sort of hiatus due to the lack of schools that field a team at their level. Still head coach Larry Robinson has kept his team sharp and playing good baseball. Defeating Royal 10-7 recently proved how well the team has been hitting. Ryan Maryoung hit a homerun to help show off the team’s power. The Eagles opened their Ocean League tilt this week against Culver City. They were at home on Tuesday and travel today to play the Centaurs. They’ll host Hawthorne next Tuesday. Softball The softball team continued its success with a 10-0 win over Beverly Hills, and 4-1 on the road against Culver City to open up Ocean League play.  Julie Roach hit a home run to start the scoring, and Alyssa Pelegrin doubled home two more runs against the Centaurs. The Eagles have been to the final two straight years losing to Agoura two years ago and then turned the tide on the Chargers winning 6-3 in last year’s final. The tournament should be well balanced this year with a number of teams having successful seasons including Westlake, POLA, Santa Monica and Redondo, which are on one side of the bracket. El Segundo, Banning, LB Wilson, and San Pedro are on the other side. If you enjoy good softball this is one of the premiere and well run tournaments you can attend. There should be some great matchups in all rounds, especially in round 2, as well as the semi-finals and finals as the tournament progresses. Each team is guaranteed four games, two each Saturday including this week and May 2nd. Games are at Rec. Park, Richmond Field, and the El Segundo Middle School. The Eagles open with Bishop Montgomery at Rec Park at 3pm on Saturday. Should they win they would advance to the 7:30pm quarter-finals against the winner of the West Torrance/ Banning game. Track and Field The track and field Mt SAC Invitational was held last Saturday. The girls varsity 4x400 relay team was the only relay group that qualified to go and the team took 2nd place in their heat and won a silver medal. More importantly the future looks bright for these sprinters since they broke the high school record for their relay. The old record was 4:09.34 and this year’s team did it in 4:08.50. Genevieve Johnson led off with a great leg which set the tempo for the rest of the team. Catherine Walz took the baton in stride and followed with one of her best showings all season. Sydney Wilbanks ran the third leg and kept the pace strong to setup Kendall Brooks. Brooks got out extremely quick and finished strong and just like that the girls set a new school record.
