A stay can mean days of bedside care and clinic treatment. UCLA Children’s Hospital thinks there some should be some playtime mixed in, too.  UCLA Children’s Hospital says that play and treatment for illnesses should be combined to comfort their young patients “when they need it most.” That approach fits, too, with Mattel’s mission to be a recognized leader in “play, learning and development worldwide.”  Burkley Brandlin Swatik & Keesey LLP Douglass AT T O R N E Y S AT L AW Lifetime El Segundo Residents Living Trusts/Wills, Probate, Employment Law, Personal Injury Trust and Estates Litigation, Business Litigation, Civil Litigation 310-540-6000 *AV Rated (Highest) Martindale - Hubbell / **Certified Specialist Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law, State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization MORTUARY “Our Family Serving Yours Since 1954” B U R I A L - C R E M AT I O N - W O R L DW I D E T R A N S F E R P E T M E M O R I A L P RO D U C T S 500 EAST IMPERIAL AVENUE EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA 90245 Te l e p h o n e ( 3 1 0 ) 6 4 0 - 9 3 2 5 • F a x ( 3 1 0 ) 6 4 0 - 0 7 7 8 • F D 6 5 8 back when she added bacon-wrapped maple bars as a breakfast item for a Saturday morning game. It grew from there with her imagination. The menu board now has grilled cheese, a BLT, chili dogs, sausage links with sautéed onions as well as peppers and mushrooms, a BBQ pretzel wrapped with bacon, and her signature breakfast burrito. If Staci can think of it and her friends will enjoy it, she’ll make it. One menu item she’s hoping to figure out how to make is French fries without a fryer. “Because of what’s involved and the lack of a real kitchen, we can’t make them--but I’m working on it,” she says. When there’s a rush to make a team special or more, that’s when Staci is at her best. During a recent tournament that involved a team from Germany and one from Japan, Staci was tasked to make a total of 72 (!) hamburgers for both teams and their families and it had to be done in 20 minutes. It was a daunting task and she not only completed the request in time, but did it to perfection. “When you get the Japan team remembering me and saying, ‘Thank you, Miss Staci’ and bringing me a present, that just gets to me,” she says with a gleaming smile. So what would Staci change about the snack bar if she could? She’d add another grill, especially for special occasions or tournaments. “With another grill, think of the possibilities,” she says with a twinkle and her mind working. What does the future hold for Staci and her work in the snack bar since this is her son Carter’s last year in Little League. She’s hoping to return next season if they’ll have her back, she says, and/or help out at the Babe Ruth snack bar if they need help. The SBWIB was the only workforce board to be recognized at the event. The award recognized the SBWIB for its innovative way of marketing a region by launching the first South Bay regional business portal called SouthBayBusiness.org, a website designed to aid businesses, chambers of commerce and city governments with critical data they need to make important business and economic development decisions. The website project was developed as a public/ private partnership resulting from a regional collaboration among South Bay Cities, led by the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB), to support business retention, layoff aversion and business attraction efforts. Access to current data for analysis of the marketplace was considered to be critically necessary for servicing business and remaining competitive. The website profiles each city with its own landing page and provides an array of tools that include a comprehensive commercial real estate search engine, detailed demographics, incentives available, workforce and labor information, key contacts for each city and information about the communities…everything a business needs in one place. Plus, there are no passwords or logins required for access and all of the comprehensive data is available to the general public. • UCLA Cares About Sick Kids All Around the World UCLA Children’s Hospital makes time for treatment and play. The first Run for Education took place on February 23, 1992 and was made possible by PTA Volunteers, the El Segundo Fire Department, Fireman’s Association, Explorer Scouts, El Segundo Unified School District personnel, local merchants and businesses.
