ESHS Engineering from front page technology related companies and professional experts will help ESCEI expand and deliver educational programs to even more elementary school students both at the El Segundo Unified School District (ESUSD) and other local school districts. “I’m excited to announce that ESCEI is currently planning a major event in conjunction with our partners at EA™ aimed at the entirety of the fourth and fifth grade classes at ESUSD,” said Shrenil Sharma, the ESHS junior who founded ESCEI along with some of his Engineering Pathway classmates. “This event will use the popular hobby of video gaming to spark an interest in the wider field of computer science.” The ESCEI website at www.escei-eshs.com is a great source of program news and upcoming event information for parents and students. Their recent presentation at the PLTW statewide conference was well-received by the teachers, superintendents and administrators in attendance, and ESCEI is now working with these contacts to establish similar computer science/Internet safety workshops at districts within the South Bay area. The ESHS students networking skills also helped them secure some additional sponsors. The ESCEI presentation and innovative ideas for delivering student-to-student computer science education earned the ESHS students an invitation to consider attending the 2017 Project Lead the Way Summit in Orlando, Florida this October. The PLTW Annual Summit brings together a diverse group of nearly 2,000 attendees—students, teachers, school administrators, business and community leaders, university and college administrators, nonprofit and philanthropic partners, and government officials— committed to innovation in education. ESCEI mentors will be sharing a presentation with the ESUSD Board of Education on Tuesday, February 14. The Board will also formally recognize the student mentors for the innovative work they are doing through ESCEI. – Photos and Content Provided by El Segundo Unified School District • El Segundo High School Engineering Pathway students with Project Lead the Way Worldwide CEO Vince Bertram (third from right) at the 6th Annual California Project Lead the Way Conference, where the students presented their program to educators.
