The facility is scheduled to break ground this April.  Fundraising commenced in 2016, with over 55 percent of the $6 million initiative raised or pledged to date. The City of El Segundo, Wiseburn Unified School District, and not-forprofit SBSHR announced the facility’s cost of $12.5 million in late 2016. After more than three decades serving the Fourth District, outgoing L.A. County Supervisor Don Knabe was instrumental in securing the County’s contribution of $250,000 towards the facility. Additionally, Chevron contributed $100,000. At the January 17 City Council meeting Richard Lundquist announced that his company, Continental Development Corporation (CDC), will contribute a second $1 million to the center. Lundquist (also CEO of SBSHR) stated this contribution was  the perfect opportunity to commemorate the centennial celebration as it represents $10,000 for each year of the City’s incorporation.
