The Eagle are on the road this week playing Girls’ Basketball The girls’ basketball team has improved to 14-8 overall and 5-1 in Ocean League play with wins over Santa Monica 44-38 and Beverly Hills 49-23. What made the wins so special was the absence of one the area’s top players, Paige Endo, who was forced out of both games with an injury. Endo played sparingly in the first half of the Santa Monica game but still managed to score nine points. It was a frustrating night shooting for the Eagles and led the Vikings 19-15 at halftime. The game stayed close until the fourth quarter when Quinn Adams, Ani Finau and Hannah Nonoguchi took control. Nonoguchi tied the at 29 and Adams gave the Eagles the lead for good with a steal for a layup and free throw to give the Eagles a 32-29 advantage. In the closing moments Nonoguchi’s free throws iced the game when the Vikings made a bid for a comeback. The Eagles completely dominated Beverly Hills on both ends of the court. The only lead Beverly Hills had was a free throw by Meagan Seagan early in the first quarter before the Eagles went on a 15-0 run. They held the Normans to just two field goals in the first half while taking a 22-5 lead. In the second half the Eagles stretched their lead to as many as 28 points. Quinn Adams had one of her best games as the senior had a 20 points and eight rebounds painting while Nonoguchi had 12 points and three assist. The Eagles (14-8, 5-1) faced Culver City (14-7, 5-1) last night on the road in a key game. Both teams were tied atop the Ocean League standings with the winner in the driver’s seat for a league championship. The Eagles play on the road at Hawthorne on Friday night at 6pm, before finishing league play next Tuesday at home against Lawndale and on the road at Santa Monica on Thursday.
