The year turned out way beyond our dreams and expectations. Donations and volunteers came from businesses, service organizations, churches, relatives, friends and neighbors. There’s no doubt, El Segundo cares. Unfortunately, the problem still exists nothing has changed. The vets still need our help. The first trip this year is in February, please if you have any good. clean, clothing that you no longer need, may we take it to them? Warm clothing is especially needed. Grooming items, games, and pocket books are also wanted. While we take items for women, there is a much bigger need for the men. So, let’s make this year even better, a Happy New Year for our deserving men and women. – Jan Cruikshank Herald in Mongolia Don Baggett holds up ES Herald in Mongolia East of the Capital City Ulaan Baatar. • Community Briefs Free Tax Preparation Assistance Program Free Tax Preparation Assistance for seniors and low-income residents on Tuesdays, beginning February 2, from 11am-3pm at the Joslyn Center. An Alert for Residents and Businesses Please be aware of any phone call or walk-up solicitations involving the El Segundo High School Athletic Program and a promotion benefiting an El Segundo High School Athletic Program. These organizations are not affiliated in any way with El Segundo High School and are using deceitful, and unscrupulous methods to obtain your donations. Each year these groups prey on the innocence of high school sports and the donations good people make in the name of El Segundo Athletics. We encourage everyone to investigate through inquiry of what is the motive for these solicitations. The most recent is a campaign involving donations in the name of the El Segundo High School for a sport calendar. The high school does not receive any money from this scam.  If you are not convinced of the integrity of the promotion, please do not give anything until you contact us.  Please, if you have any questions or concerns about the validity of any sport related fundraising, contact Steve Shevlin, Athletic Director, El Segundo High School, 1-310-615-2662 x 2310, or 2312. • Police Reports Monday, January 4, 2015 One female adult was arrested at 0132 hours from Mariposa Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard for misdemeanor DUI with a BAC of 0.08% or above.
