Thanks to the volunteers on our city’s boards and commissions; thankless work that keeps city programs running. Thanks to the Ed Foundation. These are just a few of the names that came to mind off the top of my head, obviously a drop in the bucket. The point is that most days we take for granted living in a great little city.   If we all try to give back in some small way, we can make it even better.   If you can, get involved. If you can’t, thank someone who is. But most of all, enjoy this great town and have a Happy New Year. – Jim Boulgarides Monday, December 28, 2015 One male adult was arrested at 0243 hours from Main Street and Oak Avenue for public intoxication, misdemeanor vandalism and possession of a fraudulent driver license A petty theft report was taken at 1009 hours from the 500 block of East Walnut Avenue. She was preceded in death by her wonderful parents, Charlie and Bessie Hurt and her younger brother, Chuck Hurt. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Santo Prete, four children ~ Ron Dransfeldt, Simi Valley, CA, Judy Barry, Kingman, AZ, Vern Dransfeldt, Camarillo, CA, Mary Margaret Prete, Simi Valley, CA, and their spouses.   She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, brother and sister in-laws. Her life was that of a strong willed woman who loved people and traveling all over the world.  After years of teaching in LA Junta, CO, Corona, CA, and Manhattan Beach, CA, as well as tutoring kids of all ages, and after the retirement of her beloved husband, Santo, they began a travel odyssey, which included every continent but Africa and Antarctica.  As she began getting weaker and unable to travel, she and Dad could talk for hours, reminiscing about their travels. For the last several years Dad never left her side. To be taken away on Christmas Day has a certain magic about it.    To leave this world on a day of friends and family and celebration, and move on to the next phase of your life in the hands of Jesus Christ on His birthday is quite a tribute to her. She passed away at 9:50 at night, so there must have been quite a crowd awaiting her arrival in heaven. Thank you Mama, Mom, Grandma and Aunt.  You made the world a better place. A Memorial Mass will be held on January 23, 2016, at  11:00 a.m.  at St. Peter Claver Church ~ 2380 Stow St., Simi Valley, CA (Corner of Cochran St. & Stow St.). A gathering of friends and family will be held at the home of Santo & Dorothy, following Mass at 3456 Wichita Falls, Simi Valley, CA.• Like Us on Facebook
