Hopp, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, passed away on December 23, 2016 at the age of 97, at her home in El Segundo CA. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, Ruth moved to El Segundo with her family when she was 4. She went through local schools and attended UCLA before beginning work for the city’s Public Works Department in 1941. In June 1950, she was appointed deputy city clerk. Then, in 1952 Ruth’s love for investing led to her first elected term as El Segundo city treasurer. She held this position for 28 years, a near longevity record. Ruth also served as President of the Municipal Treasurers’ Association of the United States and Canada, the Municipal Finance Officers’ Association of Southern California, the Quota Club of El Segundo and the California Municipal Treasurers’ Association, of which she was a charter member.  She received the California Federation of Women’s Clubs Woman of Achievement Award in 1959. Ruth was married to her late husband Harry for 55 years. They had one daughter. Ruth S. Hopp is survived by daughter, Susan Hopp McKinley, grandson Blake McKinley and his wife Jamie, granddaughter Shannon McKinley-Sapp and her husband Jeremy, great grandchildren Brooke, Casey, Hailey and Wyatt. •
